Larnaca to Dubai and then to Bangkok

It turned out that Sally was right to be nervous about the thunder storm! Everything was going according to plan and we actually boarded the plane early. While we were waiting on the tarmac the captain came on the PA system to tell us that take-off had been delayed because the thunderstorm was now directly over the airfield, but that it should be moving away in 10-15 minutes.

We sat and watched the lightening become almost continuous and the rain on the plane windows grow from rivulets to a waterfall. The thunder had changed from a low rumble to a series of frightening concussions. The captain said 'probably another 10-15 minutes...'

And then again...

In the end we reached Dubai at 2:15 local time instead of 0:55 which meant everything was a bit rushed getting to our connecting flight to Bangkok. We did make it on time however - but then the flight was delayed because another Emirates flight had come in late (the last thing you want at 3:15am). It was a long flight, but very interesting as it was the first time we'd flown on an Airbus A380 - and it is an amazing aircraft.

After the usual seemingly endless queue at immigration we collected our bags and met our local contact, who put us in a very flash car to our rather less than flash hotel.

We popped out for a quick coffee near the hotel and than then decided to have a rest before going to the night market this evening. Sally's now sound asleep making up for last night and I'm taking advantage of free the hotel's free wifi.
